Thom--- Great job on your Huffy Sportsman. Coincidentally, I'm driving 70 miles south tomorrow to buy a red Sportsman (via craigslist)! This will be my first bike project and I hope I can prevail upon you and your blog readers for some helpful 'handholding' if/when needed! Wish me luck!
@johnfmccann: thanks, and you should absolutely send me a photo of your new old bike once you pick it up, and please do prevail upon our little community for anything you need as you get to work!
Hello, that looks like a Brooks B72 saddle on that classic steed. I have one like it on a 1973 Lady's Raleigh Roadster and the frame is without flaw but the leather went to pot and is cracked and gives off black for the last few years (neatsfoot oil ?) Question is can I get Brooks or someone in the USA (Parsons ?) to recover it? any info would be greatly appreciated. Another Brooks B 72 on a Raleigh 1976 is super it is a antique brown and beautiful. Thanks Ed
Very nice classy bike. If you mount a lantern on it be sure to flip the holder as it is upside down in the picture. Does it have a Raleigh Heron design on it as Raleighs do. ? Thanks Ed
I am no longer answering technical questions about bicycles or responding to e-mails asking me about value, age, etc. of old bicycles. Please check the resources I have listed on the sidebar if you are looking for this information. This is a comprehensive list of everything I know about, so if you can't find it there, neither can I.
