Shocking! Rust Removal Technique

UPDATE: Here's a couple of photos of part of the rig, before and after:

An OBB reader sent me a couple of before and after photos of a rusty kickstand he cleaned up with the rust removal technique linked below. FYI, he used an old 12v laptop power supply, which he says worked just fine. I've not used this technique before, but it sure looks effective. Anyone else have any stories/photos/recommendations to share on this method?

  1. I love Instructables. There is so much good information there, and many, many ideas. There are even some old bike nuts who contribute. Had I been more prepared, I might have posted my washer lid front rack there.

  2. In a day or two, that washer lid front rack is going to get a post of its own right here! If we can't instruct, we can at least inspire!

  3. This is great! I wonder if it would work with the alloy stem that's stuck inside the steel head tube of my old Schwinn Traveler. I'd need a large bucket, though...

  4. Tamia, I know, I've been trying to figure out where I can find an old, deep bathtub that I could use. I wish my rust issues were confined to kickstands!

  5. I finally have my own rusty bike to play with. I want to see what I can do with it. So first step is to work on the rust.
